What is your major/was your major at RWU? I’m an Architecture Major. I’m also a Digital Media: Photography Minor
Graduation year? I’ll be graduating in May 2023
Where is your next adventure? I recently accepted a full time job offer with Hensel Phelps as a Field Engineer. I’ll be working out of Tysons, VA this upcoming fall. I’ll be doing surveying work on the job site while also working directly with Project Engineers and Area Superintendants. I’ll also be assisting foremen with interpretation of plans and specifications related to the project on site.
What was the process like of landing this job/next opportunity? Prior to my senior year, I interned at Narofsky Architecture & Design based in Long Island City in New York. This design office creates stunning residential and medical projects. I was tasked with handling construction drawings on AutoCad, creating competition ready material for submissions to famous architecture magazines, and also handling administrative tasks such as developing the firm’s website and social media accounts. Going into this internship, I’ve developed my software skills during my first three years in college. I’m comfortable with using AutoCad,
Sketchup, and Lumion. I’m also proficient in the three main programs in Adobe for architectural designing; Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop. When it was time to start looking for opportunities after graduation, I utilized my resources on campus to land my upcoming job. I was going through my emails one day and I saw an email from the CCPD about Hensel Phelps hosting an info session on campus. I signed up for that through Handshake and I showed up to the session that day. This is when I was introduced to Travis and Bill, who later interviewd me the following day. I received a formal job offer on March 2nd ,2023. I worked with Mary Santoro in the CCPD and she helped me with questions regarding the the offer letter, she’s has been a huge help to me during this process. I finally made a decision to join HP on March 29th
Who helped you during your job search/graduate school process? I signed for some interviews and group sessions during the annual career fair hosted by the CCPD in the Cummings School of Architecture. Mary and Sierra have been a tremendous help during that process. I would see them everyday I was scheduled for an interview and they always would have the biggest smile ! Very thankful for their help!
What advice do you have to students who are in the process of finding a job/going to graduate school?
I recommend students connect with their career advisors in the CCPD because there are a lot of resources and hard working people there that go unnoticed. Start refining your resumes and portfolios, and don’t be afraid to send applications in and reaching out to employers.
