Hawks Hired highlights the accomplishments of soon to be and recent RWU graduates as they finalize the next steps in their career journeys. Gabby will be a Field Engineer with Hensel Phelps in Virginia! Read on to learn more about her next chapter following graduation.
My program of study at RWU is Construction Management, and I will graduate in May 2024. After college, I will move from New York to Virginia and work as a field engineer with the general contractor Hensel Phelps. I am looking forward to making more connections, as I have already met many people working there last summer. I also look forward to taking advantage of all the fun places to eat and things to do in the Northern Virginia Washington D.C. area. The process for landing the job was initially getting contacted by one of their recruiters, asking to meet at the fall construction management job fair. What I liked about their approach was that their recruiter was working for them building instead of being an HR person like typical. I did an in-person interview and got the summer internship, and after proving myself over the summer, I was offered the full-time position upon graduation. My mom helped me a lot by making sure I had the support I needed, but other than that, it was a straightforward process, and I did not need much help. One piece of advice for students who are looking for jobs/internships is to use your resources. I was fortunate when looking for opportunities; only some get that, so I used the career center for resume review and mock interviews and attended the job fair. Go to everything you need to until you find something that feels good for you, there is so much help and opportunity out there!
