What was your program of study at RWU? Forensic Science – Biology track

Graduation year? 2024

Where is your next adventure? (Company/School and Role) I currently work at Massachusetts General Hospital as an Anatomical Pathology Specialist I

What are you most looking forward to in this new role? I am looking forward to gaining experience working in the lab and working hands-on with specimens. I get to see surgical specimens firsthand and prepare them to get read under a microscope, which I find really fascinating. One of the many things that drew me to apply to this job was that I get to assist during autopsies, so I am most excited to take part in that process towards the end of my training.

What was the process like of landing this job/next opportunity? For me, landing this job had a quick turnaround time. I have been looking for since graduation and stumbled upon this job randomly. I decided to apply on a whim, not thinking I would hear anything back. I applied on a Monday, received an email on Tuesday about an interview, interviewed that Friday and received my offer letter that following Thursday. The process was easy, which I am grateful for!

Who helped you during your job search/graduate school process? Before graduation, the career services and Mary Santoro guided me on the best way to search for jobs and helped me to prepare to interviews. She was a huge help when it came to my resume and showing me other sites to look for jobs besides the basics like LinkedIn.

What advice do you have to students who are in the process of finding a job/going to graduate school? My biggest piece of advice is not to be dead set on a certain job. Of course, we all have a dream job and we hope to land that role right away, but sometimes you have to use stepping stones to get there. I was so focused on applying to forensics directly, that I didn’t even think to apply to jobs within a lab or a hospital. So, shift your mindset to be more open and finding something that still allows you to receive experience in your field, because you are still gaining amazing skills to continue your career journey!
