Candidates are being considered for a full-time position as a Research Assistant at the Providence VA Medical Center. The position will be split between two federally funded mental health grant projects under the joint supervision of Drs John McGeary PhD, Jennifer Primack PhD, and Noah Philip, MD.
The first project is to examine the effectiveness of adding Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to a course of Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to reduce suicide behaviors. The Research Assistant will recruit study participants; conduct assessment/diagnostic interviews; complete ratings of diagnostic reliability and adherence to protocol; maintain participant files; assist with human subjects (IRB) activities; collect, enter, and analyze data; and perform other administrative duties.
As part of Dr. McGeary’s Molecular Genetics Laboratory, The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to perform genetic/epigenetic analyses across projects assessing a range of human psychiatric disorders (addiction, depression, sleeping disorders, etc.). All techniques will be taught. Laboratory activities include molecular genotyping; data entry and management; and sample tracking across protocols. Other responsibilities include IRB and R&D management for Dr. McGeary’s 50+ active research protocols.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or related field and some experience in human subjects’ research, Microsoft Office and SPSS or similar statistical packages. Regulatory/IRB experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Experience with suicide prevention, molecular biology, and/or transcranial magnetic brain stimulation.
