Our chapter of FIMRC works with FIMRC global, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of families in the developing world through the implementation of innovative and self-sustainable health improvement programs. We have been a chapter for 10 years now at Roger Williams University.
We participate in trips where we volunteer in a FIMRC Pediatric Clinic in one of the various sites around the world. This type of learning experience incorporates many of RWU’s core values including: service learning and sustainability, a global perspective and experience, career experience, and learning experience. The student volunteers will be participating in educating community members on prevention of disease, nutrition, and sanitation through hands on experience.
This trip will be highly beneficial to those who are planning for careers in the medical field and will give professional experience through working with certified physicians. However, this experience is open to all disciplines and majors. These international alternatives are offered at many other institutions similar to RWU. Our objective is to create an international experience available to the RWU student community. Our educational experience from this trip will be presented to the RWU community to further educate our students on the core values one can gain from an international alternative spring break.
