Where is your next adventure? (Company/School and Role) I will be joining Shawmut Design and Construction as a Construction Management Skills Trainee (CMST) over at the Providence Office.
What are you most looking forward to in this new role? I am excited to gain more knowledge on the construction industry and work with diverse teams to deliver exceptional results to the Providence community, whether is through building educational facilities, revitalizing public spaces or creating different infrastructure that benefits local residents, It’s rewarding to know that my work as a professional after graduation can make a difference in the community. I am committed and excited to fostering inclusivity and representation within the construction industry, making sure diverse perspectives are valued and uplifted.
What was the process like of landing this job/next opportunity? It was both challenging but also rewarding it involved a lot of self preparation and networking, I was able to have great resources like the CCPD who helped me navigate the process of landing a position, each step required a lot of perseverance and adaptability, but it all worked out once I secured this role that aligned with my aspirations.
Who helped you during your job search/graduate school process? I am so grateful for the support I received from the Center for Career and Professional Development team at Roger Williams, their guidance gave me confidence and essential tools I needed to make sure I landed my position, having their expertise and encouragement made a huge difference and impact in this process and I would have not been able to be as prepared without their support. I am also grateful for the Shawmut team I was able to meet during my internships that shared their knowledge with me, made sure I was prepared for any challenges and advised me in any situation.
What advice do you have to students who are in the process of finding a job/going to graduate school? My advice is to never be afraid to show who you are and where you come from, embrace your strengths experiences and perspectives, don’t hesitate to be authentic during interviews or applications, what makes you different can be your greatest asses, the right opportunity will align with who you are, your passions, and values.
