Hawks Hired! Eden Ladouceur ’23

Hawks Hired highlights the accomplishments of soon to be RWU graduates as they finalize the next steps on their career journeys. Eden will soon begin full time work at Rhode Island Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics as a Dental Assistant. Read on to learn more about her next chapter following graduation.

What is your major/was your major at RWU? I am a Forensic Science major on the biology track with a double minor in Psychology and Chemistry.

Graduation year? I will be graduating in May 2023.

Where is your next adventure? I will be working as a dental assistant at Rhode Island Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics starting in June while I also apply to dental school.

What was the process like of landing this job/next opportunity? The process was very tedious. I applied to a bunch of jobs on Indeed, Zip Recruiter, LinkedIn, and Handshake. I had countless phone screenings and some job interviews, but nothing seemed to fit until I spoke with Rhode Island Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics. After an initial phone screening, we set up an in-person interview and follow up with a date for me to shadow to meet the team. It was relieving when everything started to fall into place.

Who helped you during your job search/graduate school process? I first started by going to the CCPD for help with updating my resume. After that, I used common job listing platforms that I had been successful on in the past. I mainly looked to my friends and family for advice as I was applying. I’ve also been working with Jon in the Pre-Health office for guidance with applying to dental school.

What advice do you have to students who are in the process of finding a job/going to graduate school? I would say to do a little each day and to take care of yourself. The task of applying to jobs and graduate school is daunting but becomes manageable when divided into smaller parts. It can be quite discouraging when you get rejections which adds to the significance of self-care during these times. Everything will end up working out as long as you’re dedicated to what you do!
