Majors & Careers

After years of hard work and preparation, you’ve made it to college. But now, you have to decide what’s next – and how you’ll make sure you use your time at RWU to prepare for that next step.

Career exploration can be one of the most exciting parts of your college experience, but it can be difficult to know where to begin if you’re not sure what’s out there. Fortunately, we have plenty of resources to help you get started.

What Can I do With This Major?

Whether you’re exploring majors or searching for information about your chosen field, What Can I Do with this Major will help you connect majors to careers. Learn about typical career areas and types of employers that hire people with each major, as well as strategies to make you a more marketable candidate. Continue your research through the websites provided.

Make an Appointment

Right here on campus, you are surrounded by potential mentors – staff members and faculty who want to help you uncover your passions. Consider making an appointment with an academic advisor or a faculty member whose class you are really enjoying to talk about future directions of study, or make an appointment with your Career Advisor in Handshake to dive deeper into your career assessment results.

Career Planning Seminar

The Internship and Career Planning Seminar (CPS 101) is a zero-credit online course that covers a variety of topics to ensure students are prepared, confident, and skilled in their ability to showcase themselves professionally and better understand how to navigate the world of work. You can sign up for the course at any time via Roger Central. Whether you are trying to determine what career path is right for you or find out how to get a job in your chosen area, CPS can get you to the next stage of your career journey!

The Roger Connection

The Roger Connection is a tool that allows RWU students to network with RWU alums. The Roger Connection can also be a helpful tool for career exploration: use the search feature to find alums who have graduated from a similar major and identify what career paths they are pursuing. Review their profiles to learn what experiences led them to their current role. You can even reach out to request informational interviews right from The Roger Connection platform! Learn how to set up your Roger Connection profile today.

Career Communities

The Center for Career & Professional Development has created webpages with information tailored to eleven different career communities – located under the “Career Communities” tab above. Find a career community that interests you and review information about where people in this community work, review active job postings within this community, find alumni working in this community, and more. You can even sign up for email alerts when community-specific content (including blog posts and job opportunities) is posted by clicking “Customize Your Alerts” on the right side of the screen!
